The Story
I’m Gustavo. I was born and raised in Brazil. During my life I've moved a lot. Rio de Janeiro, Montes Claros, Jaguarão, Recife, Campinas are all cities I've lived in. Every move left something in me. In 2017, I moved to Vancouver on my own and now it feels like home.
Sewing runs in my family. My grandmother sews, and her father was a tailor. But until then it was never something I knew how to do.
In 2021, I was looking for a hot pink shirt, but couldn't find one, so I bought a sewing machine and learnt how to make it. That was my first shirt. One turned into another and then into GUSTAVO NERI.
In October 2026, I presented my collection ORIGENS at Vancouver Fashion Week for the first time, marking the beginning of GUSTAVO NERI in the Vancouver fashion community.
How I work
I cut and sew every piece myself, here in Vancouver. There’s no factory working with me yet. That’s on purpose for now. It lets me focus on the craft and on the details, so that when the day comes to work with a factory, I’ll know exactly how every piece should be made.
Right now I mostly make shirts, in small batches of 10 pieces at most. I also make pieces made to measure. If you have something in mind and want to bring it to life, get in touch. I love helping with that.
I like to work with natural fibres, depending on the piece, of course.
